 Bill's Chase Summary: June 23, 2002, Leola, SD-Houghton, SD.

After chasing with my friend and chase partner David Gold during the SLT "Master Class Tour", I decided to chase on my own for a couple of more days as I worked my way north and eventually east to visit my parents who live in MI..  I left OKC around 11 AM CST on Saturday June 22, and made it to Mitchell, SD around 9 PM CST, and spent the night in Aberdeen, SD.  Since Dave was flying from Denver to Houston on Sunday, I called a couple friends in Lubbock for model data and the 4 pm surface observations.  After I analyzed the 4 PM CDT surface observations, which showed a surface trough/dryline and outflow boundary intersection about 50 miles northwest of ABR,  I left for my forecast area near Leola, SD. I did see one storm develop west of Leola around 445 PM..  The initial storm's updraft split several times than dissipated.  I did see a big multi-cell storm to my north over south-central ND, however this storm looked kind of mushy!  I decided to wait for a tail-end storm to develop near the triple point.  One finally did while topping off the tank in Allendale, ND.  I headed west towards the storm's updraft on a county road that went to Long-Lake, SD. During the chase I stayed south and southeast of the storm's updraft.   Here are some of the stills I captured from my video.

All video scans are in sequential order!
