 Chase Summary: April 23, 2003

The storm environment looked favorable over northwest Texas for tornadic supercells on Wednesday April 23. I was off work so I decided to chase.  The first storms of the day fired on the dryline just east of Lubbock.  One storm north of Crosbyton had a wall cloud but was moving into a grungy and cool environment.  The second storm developed north of Post and was high-based.  Eventually this storm got it's act together as it moved northeast west of Guthrie then northeast across northern King County.  There was a nice wall cloud with this storm ( pictures 1 and 2 from left to right) for about 20 minutes before it transitioned into a big linear HP storm.  There were a lot of scud bombs along the surging outflow boundary across eastern King County, west of Benjamin, TX.  Pictures 3 and 4 (from left to right) show a scudnado, I hope it wasn't reported in as a legit tornado?  I left the HP storms and targeted other mushy storms east of Guthrie to south of Breckenridge.  Dave called me to inform me of a potentially tornadic storm southwest of Stephenville. However,  I was heading west to play some dryline storms on I-20  I stopped about 50 miles east of ABI and did see some nice towers going up to my south, but they also turned into mushy CB's, so I blew them off and headed back to Lubbock.
