Select video captures from the 1998 Tours:

The following are still frames captured from video which we shot during our 1998 chases. Enjoy!

From Grand Island, NE vicinity May 11, 1998.

Picture 1 (upper left): Updraft tower SE of Grand Island.
Picture 2 (upper right): Wall cloud on small low-precipitation storm near Giltner, Nebraska.
Picture 3 (lower left): Wall cloud to our NE near Stockham on the same storm about 1/2 hour later.
Picture 4 (lower right): Large hail in the core of this storm.

From Eastern Iowa May 15, 1998.

Wall cloud west of Maquoketa, IA. Poor visibility and fast storm motion cost us view of tornadoes with this storm!

From near Anamoose, North Dakota. May 17, 1998.

The Balfours, ND tornado as seen from near Anamoose, ND. Note the sinuous rope funnel to the left of the main tornado.

From near Cambridge, Nebraska. May 21, 1998.

Picture 1 (upper left): Driving towards supercell thunderstorm. Note the sharp-edged anvil to our west. Such a feature is usually a reliable indicator that the parent updraft is very intense and probably severe.
Picture 2 (upper right): Raggedy mesocyclone to our west. Note the tail cloud feeding into the wall cloud from the north (right side of picture)
Picture 3 (lower left): Rapidly rotating wall cloud to our northwest. About 6 miles NW of Cambridge.
Picture 4 (lower right): Dust being blown northeastward by a surging rear-flank downdraft about 5 minutes prior to picture 3.

Picture 5 (upper left): Center of rotation within mesocyclone shown in Pictures 2,3. Tangential wind velocity was about 50-70 mph at this time (estimated, of course).
Picture 6 (upper right): Sean and the Gang during the heat of the action on this day.
Picture 7 (lower center): The Aftermath the next day!
