March 11, 2001 Comanche County Mesocyclone

March 11, 2001 mesocyclone - part I: After following this developing supercell across southern Comanche County, Texas since 5:00 pm when it left northern Mills County, we finally were in a position to let the intensifying low-level mesocylone come at us from the west-southwest. This video clip is taken looking west-southwest at about 5:48 pm CST from a point roughly 0.75-1 mile west of Lamkin, Texas on Highway 36. We were shooting from inside the vehicle because a cloud-to-ground lightning strike had hit just yards from us moments earlier, creating a Corona discharge on the adjacent power poles. Look at the great motion in the cloud base!
